After a long hiatus, I've decided to return to the blog. Why? Well, I'm in the final year of a Graphic Design Associate's degree at the venerable PCC (Venerable like
The Cooper Union, you ask? Well, no. More like peanut butter and jelly.), and the daunting task of inserting myself into working society is large and looming ahead. Don't get me wrong; I'm flippin' excited. But I tend to cower shivering in a corner if I think about it too long.
That said, I'm going to start using this blog as an accountability buddy, much like you would in an AA program or a couch to 5k training (yes, uh, just like those.). This is where I struggle to brand myself so that complete strangers can know who I am with a glance at a business card and a flip through a portfolio.
The biggest problem is that I am somewhat of a bipolar: How do I unify my love for metal
Caslon type with the rigid geometry of
Josef Müller-Brockmann's grid? Ornate gold-leafed medieval
iconography with
Saul Bass's flat shapes? A mammoth task, you say? Yes, yes it is. I'm going to go cower for a bit.
